Today, “Sir Thomas,” a time traveler from Medieval England, visited my 7 year old daughter’s classroom. Sir Thomas, being from the 1500’s, was unfamiliar with many of the gadgets in the classroom and the students delighted in explaining to him what a computer is, what a DS does, how to text on a cell phone, the need for him to have a TV for his horse, as well as the need for high heels for his horse (which is a whole nother story. I am just grateful it wasn’t my 7 year old bringing up the high heels.) He then delighted them in discussing some things from his time period, such as moats, jousting, and dungeons. He then asked the children if anyone knew what “stocks” were. My daughter’s hand flew up and Sir Thomas called on her. She very clearly and matter of factly stated, “They are things that you buy and then they mature and give you more money when you retire.”

Only one of my kids…

Sir Thomas grinned in shock, held in the laughter, smiled and replied, “How very intelligent you are, young lady.” Of course, what he was referring to was the stockade form of punishment.

Thank you, Sir Thomas, for your wonderful visit to my daughter’s classroom and your very informative and fun discussions! They kids had a great time, and now you have some insight into how “interesting” kids are…especially when they are intelligent! Of course, there is something to be said for how “interesting” they are when they desire high heels for horses 🙂
